First Exchange Program for Hong Kong Australian Graduates

PRESS RELEASE

First Exchange Program for Hong Kong Australian Graduates to Mainland

Economic Developments and Integral Cooperations of the Mega Guangzhou – Hong Kong Exchange Visits will be held on 9th & 10th of April 2009 in Guangzhou.

The program is a joint effort of the Central Liaison Office of the People’s Government in HKSAR and Guangzhou Youth Federation, co-organised by the Federation of Australian Alumni Associations (FAAA), Australia China Alumni Association (ACAA) and The Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Australia (CPA) together with the support from alumni associations of the University of Queensland, Monash University, University of Adelaide, University of South Australia, University of Ballarat, Griffith University, University of Melbourne, Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) and Queensland University of Technology (QUT).

The program aims to promote the understandings of Australian graduates residing in Hong Kong on the latest development in Guangzhou – the nearest state capital in Mainland to Hong Kong, and provides an opportunity for Australian graduates to exchange views on the latest and future developments in the Pearl River Delta region – the most promising area in Asia. Visits to various government bodies in Guangzhou will be made including the Hong Kong Economic & Trade Office, The Development and Reform Commission of Guangzhou and the Australian Consulate General. The trip also includes site visits to plants of different industries, including multinational corporate such as Honda Motor; regional giant media group: Guangzhou Daily as well as participating in an exchange forum with EMBA students of the Jinan University, and an exchange dinner with the Guangzhou Youth Entrepreneurs Association so on.

FAAA was founded in 1995 under the initiative of the Australian Consulate General in Hong Kong. With over 24 Australian universities alumni members, FAAA officially represents all Australian universities graduates in Hong Kong. With Australia being one of the major overseas education providers for China, it is vital for the link between Australia, Hong Kong and China to be maintained and fostered. This first ice-breaking visit from Australian graduates in Hong Kong to the Mainland, will not only improve the understandings between professionals and business executives in Hong Kong and China, but it also serves to build and foster a long-term, cross-cultural relationship between Australia and China. Moreover, this program will provide an opportunity for governmental bodies and private organizations in the Mainland to welcome its Australia returned intellectuals, where mutual opportunities on better fusion of the two cities would be further explored.

While this program is FAAA’s first initiative in the Mainland, it will certainly not be the last.
